Since we're heading toward a rather quiet time from the Islanders as the NHL playoffs begin without them, I'll have a couple posts here of interviews with players from Monday's breakup day.
Today, we'll begin with John Tavares. He spoke on a variety of topics, including the chemistry "hiccup" the team suffered when Matt Moulson was traded, who he thinks might work well on his left side next...Read more »
TAMPA -- A few notes of interest off Tuesday night’s game, the latest in a long line of “Oh, hey, that happened” nights for the Islanders this season
In talking with Colin McDonald and Matt Martin, the Trottier and Bossy of the 5-4 win (each had two goals and McDonald had an assist), they spoke about the adjustments of moving from mostly playing with Casey Cizikas to playing with Ryan Strome,...Read more »
Glendale, Ariz. -- Ryan Strome has arrived with the Islanders, but his NHL debut will have to wait.
Jack Capuano said Strome will sit out tonight’s game with the Coyotes, as if the coach weren’t already one of the most unpopular people on Twitter (at least as far as my timeline is concerned).
“We wanted to get him in here, get acclimated to our meetings, have some time to sit down with...Read more »
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Garth Snow has made his first move to change up the Islanders roster, placing veteran Pierre-Marc Bouchard on waivers to make room for Ryan Strome, who leads the AHL in scoring.
Bouchard, 29, signed a one-year, $2 million contract in July and Snow hoped the former Wild first-round pick could regain some of his scoring form he had before concussions cost him major time in...Read more »
ST. LOUIS -- Of all the questions that could be asked about the Islanders right now -- too many to list here, and I’ve got a plane to catch -- here’s one:
Is it time to rebuild the rebuild?
Garth Snow earned praise for jumping in as an inexperienced general manager seven years ago and committing to a bottom-to-top rebuilding of the organization. He stayed small-budget and low-key, amassing...Read more »
Jack Capuano admitted he’s not a “stat guy” after the Islanders’ latest debacle on Tuesday -- don’t get excited, advanced-stats gang, he wasn’t even talking about those -- but even he had to mention the most ridiculous of all the ridiculous numbers coming out of this 8-15-5 team.
The Islanders are now 0-13-3 when scoring two goals or fewer. In a defense-first league, in a division where teams...Read more »
Some notes from Thursday’s Isles-Devils game in Newark:
-- Jack Capuano was particularly pleased with the work of his very inexperienced defense against a Devils team that had about 75 percent of its opening night roster on the ice. Griffin Reinhart, Ryan Pulock, Andrey Pedan and Scott Mayfield all played very capably; Mike Dalhuisen, the 24-year-old out of The Netherlands and Quinnipiac University...Read more »
With the morning skates underway in Saskatchewan, here are the lines, defense pairs and goaltenders for each of the Isles’ split-squad games Tuesday night:

For many prospects at the Islanders Mini Camp, this week presents an opportunity to meet some of the other players in the organization and have a little fun before returning to their respective junior or college teams.
Not for Ryan Strome. He’s got a different mission.
“I expect to be a leader and show that I’m a man amongst boys here,” Strome said. “I want to show that I’m a good player...Read more »
Islanders beat writer Arthur Staple answered questions from Newsday readers on Thursday. Here’s some of the highlights from the chat:
Kyle: Do you think this team is capable of winning 1+ rounds in the playoffs?
Staple: Kyle -- The way they've played the last 9 games, it's hard to say "no chance" to that. The Bruins/Penguins first-round matchup will be tough, for sure, and...Read more »
