With their resounding win last night, the Islanders earned themselves an off day today. They'll pick back up tomorrow and, in an odd respite from a jam-packed schedule, will have two days of practice to prepare for Buffalo.

The Islanders, Senators, and Canadiens are currently all huddled together vying for the last playoff spot in the East with 48 points in 47 games played.

More on their playoffs hopes tomorrow, but I just wanted to point out someone that flew under the radar amidst all the success last night: Defenseman Bruno Gervais.

After finishing the last half of last season strong, Gervais had a slow start this year. Scott Gordon has preached his need to simplify and get back to the things he was doing well last year.

Gervais had a great game last night, finishing with a goal and an assist.

Scott Gordon called it his "best game of the season."

Now that he got that monkey off his back with his first goal of the season, Gervais will be looking to contribute more offensively in the future like he did when paired with Mark Streit last year.
