Despite carrying three quarterbacks, Mike Tannenbaum said he wouldn’t rule out drafting another.

“Sure. We’ve kept four. We could keep four again,” the Jets GM said. “...If the board tells us that, we would definitely take one. We’ve spent a lot of time with some quarterbacks.”

Asked if all three of his current QBs -- starter Mark Sanchez and backups Tim Tebow and Greg McElroy -- weren’t already locks, Tannenbaum clarified his statement.

“I’m just saying we could keep four quarterbacks and we’ll see how the draft unfolds,” he said. “But I would definitely not rule out a quarterback. ...I’m not saying that Greg going to turn into a front-line starter, but he played well in the preseason and almost led us to a victory against Houston. He’s done good things for us. Obviously he was hurt, but classroom time, hard worker, and we’re excited about what he can do. But I would rule that out.”

Tannenbaum also said the versatility of Tebow, who potentially could be used as a running back, fullback and H-back, won’t affect the Jets’ draft board.

“He’s our back-up quarterback, so that’s how we’re listing him, and that’s how we’re going to carry him on our roster,” Tannenbaum said. “That could be more like a subtle tiebreaker, knowing that he has unique skill sets and athleticism. But in terms of how we are looking at our strategy, he’s clearly at quarterback for us, and that’s how we are listing him.”

“It’s important that we’re lining up in one offense, that we have one Jet offense,” added vice president of college scouting Joey Clinkscales. “So that being said, you want the best wide receiver available, the best offensive guard available, the best tight end available. We aren’t going to specifically draft a guy or not draft a guy because of what that particular player might do, especially if he’s the back-up.”
