AV: Marc Staal has "symptoms" not definite concussion


Before tonight's game, Alain Vigneault said Staal, who was hit in the jaw by Reid Boucher Saturday and did not return to the Devils game, is being examined for neck issues, and doctors will monitor him for a few days to determine if he has a concussion related to the hit.

Staal did not feel quite right, Vigneault said after last night's game.

So he is scratched tonight against the Caps, and Michael Del Zotto is back in.

Staal, 26, missed 36 games with a concussion in the 2011-12 season and only played 21 games last season after being struck with a puck near the right eye.

Staal, who has struggled this season, possibly because of lingering vision problems, flung his helmet down as he walked to the trainers room.


A surprise healthy scratch is C Dom Moore, and Benoit Pouliot, who sat Saturday, is back in the lineup, presumably on a fourth line with Brian Boyle at center and Taylor Pyatt. Vigneault said Moore's play has slipped in the last few games.


Derek Dorsett (wrist) skated at the practice rink today but is scratched again. Vigneault said an MRI Friday showed only a bruise and the winger is considered day to day.


It will be Henrik Lundqvist vs Philipp Grubauer in the nets. Grubauer, 22, has appeared in three games in the past two seaons, and has an 0-1-0 record and a 2.89 GAA...
