Avery, Gilroy appear to be odd men out tonight (UPDATE)

Confirmed. Sean Avery, Matt Gilroy out tonight vs Habs.

Avery on why: "I guess my discipline, the penalties last game."

He had three, first a boarding;  the second, IMO a questionable goaltender interference, and a third for roughing that was obvious and unnecessary with the Rangers up 6-2 in the third. The Isles scored on the ensuing PP. You could tell by the look on coach John Tortorella's face that Avery was in the doghouse.

"I wouldn't stop talking if I talked about what I thought was was questionable and wasn't," Avery said.  "I came here ready to work.... I'm just going to keep working on my conditioning. I can't control (the decision on healthy scratches). I can only control what I'm going to do."

So Wojtek Wolski, after sitting out a game, goes back in to the left of Stepan and Zuccarello; Steve Eminger will be paired with Bryan McCabe.

*****

In goal, it's Henrik Lundqvist vs Carey Price tonight....

****

Martin Biron (collarbone), with left arm still in sling, says he hasn't been cleared to ride the bike yet.  The bone "is not set yet".  And of course, he has not been able to start any upper-body workouts. Says he's playing a lot of Mario on Wii with his son, Jacob....Derek Boogaard skated, says he did not enter NCAA pool, but would've picked Kansas...Rumor has it that  Biron, Erik Christensen and Chad Johnson are tied for the early lead in the Rangers pool....

PREVIOUS

Judging from the morning skate. It would be Avery's second scratch in three games and Gilroy's second in a row. So it seems Wojtek Wolski is back in and Steve Eminger sticks around for a second consecutive start with Bryan McCabe.
