Bettman in Brooklyn: 82-game season chances dim

The commissioner, in Brooklyn for the announcement of the Islanders move to Barclays Center in 2015---complete with a 25-year-lease---said:  "Unfortunately, it doesn't look like an 82-game season is going to be a reality."

With no talks scheduled on a new CBA agreement, and the NHL offer eon the table due to expire tomorrow, Bettman said the NHLPA has "chosen not to engage on our proposal", upon which a 82-game schedule, starting Nov. 2, was contingent. Said "there really is no point in meeting" with the PA.

The union last Thursday offer three of their own proposals, which were quickly rejected by Bettman.

Another block of games is expectd to be wiped out tomorrow or Friday, and Bettman said a decision on whether or not to cancel the Winter Classic in Michigan will have to be made "sometime in November".
