Biron, Asham clear waivers; Miller, Talbot practice
Just a quick memo before I leave for D.C. ahead of tomorrow's AM skate and the game against the Caps...
As expected yesterday, J.T. Miller and Cam Talbot were officially summoned from Hartford and practiced; vets Martin Biron and Arron Asham cleared waivers at noon.
Asham (if you read Newsday or newsday.com or my twitter account) had agreed to go to the WolfPack, work hard and hope he can be called up or traded. His cap hit is $75,000.
Biron, 36, will take a few days to determine what path he'll take: Report to the AHL, retire, work as a broadcaster....Good guys, wish them and their families the best.
Miller, 20, skated on the fourth line with Dom Moore and Derek Dorsett...Talbot, 26, will back up Henrik Lundqvist at Verizon Center.
One item worth noting: Michael Del Zotto was sidelined with the flu, the team said, and would not make the trip to Washington today with the team. He might travel tomorrow, but that's unclear. Justin Falk, who played five minutes in his Rangers debut in St. Louis, practiced in DZ's spot with John Moore.
Scouting report: If you haven't watched the Caps power-play, buckle up. With Nik Backstrom quarterbacking the 1-3-1 from the right wall, they are extremely potent. Alex O already has six PP points.
So Dorsett and Falk, who were whistled for five penalties between them in St. Louis, need to play smarter and tred lightly tomorrow...
Newsday's Anthony Reiber pinch-hit for me at practice while I took care of some errands and appointments after that 12-day Western road trip. Please check his report for quotes and more...
