Henrik Lundqvist was on his stomach, then his knees. Ryan McDonagh was down. Brad Richards was behind Lundqvist on the goal line. Devils were whacking away at the puck. Adam Henrique stepped in from the right side and tapped it in and skated away to celebrate at 1:03 of overtime. 3-2. Game over, series over, season over.

The time just ran out on the gritty Rangers, who led this series 2-1, tied Game 6 after trailing 2-0, go home for the summer.  The Devils advance to the Finals against the Kings.

And now, the Rangers (who blocked just 8 shots, Devs 15 BTW and NY lost  56 percent of faceoffs) regroup, reshuffle, and re-engineer.

More tomorrow and beyond, but some quick thoughts:

DEFENSE:

Look for changes here. McDonagh, Girardi, Staal are warriors, keepers, but were worn down. Interesting call on Del Zotto. Could he be trade bait for a scorer, someone like Bobby Ryan? Steve Eminger, who played 2:06 and nothing in the second and third period, is a UFA. Tim Erixon will get a long look in training camp. Can Stu Bickel improve enough? Do the Rangers make a run at Nashville's FA Ryan Suter?  FA Justin Schultz of Wisconsin? Probably.

OFFENSE:

More needed. Another two goal game. It'll be interesting to see who was hurt and will need surgery. Callahan, Richards, Kreider (just 9:33 tonight) are here to stay.  Gaborik didn't come through when needed this series. Derek Stepan and Carl Hagelin didn't score against the Devils, but are young and investments. Brian Boyle hasn't been the same since the concussion. Ruslan Fedotenko improved in the playoffs and deserves another one-year deal.

GOALTENDING:

Lundqvist under contract. Would not have gone this far without him. Biron UFA, but likes it here.

Rangers breakup day is Monday.  Will be covering that, some of the Finals, and the Blueshirts off-season activities of course, so hang in. They draft 28th. Thanks so much for following here and on twitter and in the paper.
