Eye on N.J. : NYR clinches if Devils lose to Calgary tonight

It may not be the way that the Blueshirts prefer to join the teams such as Pittsburgh and Boston and Tampa and Montreal, who have clinched playoff berths, but unless the cross-river rival Devils grab two points from the Flames tonight it Newark, the Rangers have a post-season spot.

With 84 points, the Devils need to win their last four games to reach 92 points. The Rangers have 91 and the ROW tie breaker 39-34. So 91 won't be enough for Pete DeBoer's guys. If the Devils win, it will be up to the Rangers to get at least a point against the Hurricanes Tuesday night at MSG

Looking ahead a bit, if the Rangers should secure 2nd place in the Metro (and have home ice advantage in the first round against the Flyers or possibly the Blue Jackets), Game 1 could not be on Wednesday April 16. That's the final game of the regular season for the Knicks.  So figure a Game 1 on Thursday the 17th and a weekend Game 2 at MSG, before a Game 3 on the road.

If the Rangers have to start the post-season on the road, the coast is clear in Philadelphia for a Wednesday or Thursday start. Sixers aren't in town.
