Flurries begin as Flyers lead 2-1 after 2

Flurries began drifting down during the second period, which ended with the Flyers ahead, 2-1. After controlling the neutral zone for the first part of the period---the Rangers had 13 shots overall---Bryden Schenn deposited a rebound from in front as Ryan McDonagh failed to react at 12:26. It was Schenn’s first NHL goal.

Claude Giroux’s 18th goal of the season gave the Flyers a two-goal lead off an odd man rush. Giroux cut to his left in front and beat Lundqvist with a backhander at 14:21.

But 30 seconds later, Mike Rupp, who played in last year’s game while with the Penguins, cut the lead in half. A pass from the right boards by Brandon Prust found Rupp just above the circles and his snap shot went past a screened Bobrovsky. The Rangers picked up their intensity after that and when Marian Gaborik poked away a puck at the blue line, he and Derek Stepan burst in on Bobrovsky. But Gaborik flipped Stepan’s last second pass just past the right post, missing an opportunity to tie the game. The shots were 26-17, in favor of the Flyers.
