Musings: Boyle, Nash, Staal, Winnipeg, outdoor games
Another mysterously bland first period, this time in Philly with a lot on the line. Cannot happen. Ranger practice at noon Wednesday with B2B coming up. Some post-game thoughts that never got posted last night.....
-- If the exam on Brian Boyle (knee, it appears) determines that he’s out for a while, the Rangers need an extra forward. Is it Kris Newbury? Possibly. The coach apparently doesn’t trust J.T. Miller or Chris Kreider enough.
--Paging Rick Nash. Paging Rick Nash. Unless his wrist is hurt (and we’ve seen the ice pack after one of the Toronto games), and even if it is, the battle level has to increase. Why he wasn’t on the first power play unit (0-for-5) is a question for the coach, who probably won’t offer a real answer anyway.
-- If Winnipeg wins its next five games, Rangers have to go 5-0-1. Will Rangers fans have to root for the Islanders to beat the Jets on the road?
-- The outdoor games. Wrote about the Yankee Stadium possibility a week or so, if you recall. But two games here in a week before the NY/NJ Super Bowl? Brrr. Well, there certainly will be enough media in town.
-- Said it before and will say it again. How much does this team miss Marc Staal? Enormously. Wonder if he’ll play next week?
