Peacocks are viewing party poopers
As first reported in the Bergen Record's Fire & Ice blog, NBC has put the kibosh on any more viewing parties in the road team's arena during the Eastern Conference finals.
The network did allow viewing parties at both the Garden and the Rock earlier in the series but put a stop to them beginning with Game 5.
The reason? Ratings, basically.
Said an NBC spokesman: "Viewing parties can have an adverse effect on viewership and, hence, on our obligations to our advertisers, sponsors and affiliates."
Give the network credit for honesty. Also, in fairness keep in mind this policy is standard procedure for major pro sports in this country.
Let's put it this way: When is the last time the Giants or Jets hosted a viewing party at the Meadowlands for a road playoff game?
