The Wrap: A Post-game Extra w/quotes, stats

Tortorella on going into second 1-1 after outshooting Avs 16-6 in first: “I thought we kept on going in second and third periods, we created quite a few great chances, that’s the way it works sometimes.”

Torts on Zuccarello: “He’s helping the power play; he has a bomb off the faceoff and hits the post. That line gave us good shifts throughout the game. Certainly with the man advantage, he makes plays. We’ll continue with him. ”

Torts on Erixon (9:57, three hits, no shots): “He looks a little stronger out of uniform. He makes a real patient play (pass) to Step… that’s what we’re looking for, someone to get us out of our zone, who can add something to the second power play. There’s some work to be done. With some of the tutelage down there and the grind of the American Hockey League, it’s helped him.”

Torts on Dubinsky: “I thought Dubi was good, he was around the puck, he looked more confident with the puck, something he hasn’t been a lot this year. He shot the puck, didn’t overpass.”

***

Carl Hagelin: “It’s frustrating. We had some good intensity. We are not too negative now but we have to score on our chances. It’s tough to win games when you score one goal.”

Henrik Lundqvist, who had missed the last two games with the flu: “I feel pretty good. The last few games I haven’t seen much action, so the toughest part is to stay sharp. Two goals, but I would have liked to come up with two more saves and have a one-nothing game. We still have a few things to improve, including myself….I think we’ll score more goals, we just have to stay confident here. (Varlamov) stood on his head.”

The Rangers were 0-for-5 on the power play, but had 10 shots….Dan Girardi led all skaters with 27:02 on ice…Torts was unhappy again with the Prust-Boyle-Fedotenko line, which was on ice for Landeskog’s goal and alluded to some possible changes…
