Tuesday Thoughts: Rozy, Jagr, Game 6, buyouts, key dates
Before the Final, offered my best wishes to Rozy and Jags, two quality guys and former Rangers, and Rozy comes out on top with Hawks. He averaged 19:15 on ice in the post-season and was a plus-9, with four assists in 23 games. Really enjoyed covering him in New York, although he was the Garden’s designated whipping boy (sometimes well-deserved) on defense.
Wonder if Jags, 41, a world-class act who was definitely slowed despite his conditioning efforts, will return to the KHL or Europe next season rather than face an 82-game schedule. NHL’s loss, if so…
From talking to a couple front office types and listening to some others (Caps GM George McPhee’s presser yesterday), distinct sense there’s going to be plenty of movement in the next two weeks.
Assuming you saw my take here yesterday on the Brad Richards buyout (to paraphrase the old Nike slogan, just do it). Clock is ticking now through July 4.
Dates to remember: Buyout period begins at 11 p.m. Wednesday through 5 p.m. July 4. Free agency starts July 5 at 3 p.m. And the draft, where some of the horse-trading will occur, is Sunday starting at 3 p.m.---all rounds---in Newark. Right now, Rangers do not have a first or second rounder…..Newsday will have a draft preview in Sunday’s editions, but I’ll post some more thoughts before that.
And Torts’ intro in Vancouver is 4 p.m. ET today.
Note: Me and ESPN/NY radio’s Don LaGreca for sure (and presumably some others) had the Hawks in 7. Had a feeling Bruins simply could not keep up the grind/pace. Huge effort from both clubs, though. Bravo.
