With Pens loss today, Rangers can clinch East tonight with point
I was driving south to catch John Tortorella’s pregame remarks (12 seconds of him denying that clinching the No. 1 seed means anything--- “no…no…no”), so I missed the Pens-Flyers brawl. Did catch it on You Tube. Must watch.
The bottom line is that with the Pens 6-4 loss, the Rangers can nail down the East title with their 51stwin (of any type) against the Bruins or a point in an overtime loss here tonight at MSG. And they would do it with three games remaining. Bruins also could clinch Northeast with a point.
The No. 1 seed of course, means a first-round battle with the No. 8, which at this point could be Washington, Florida, Buffalo or maybe Ottawa, although the Sens look groomed for seventh. One of the nice things about today was cancelling my just-in-case Winnipeg reservations.
On to the game: Tim Thomas vs Henrik Lundqvist in the cages. Same NYR lineup, so no John Scott, Jeff Woywitka or Steve Eminger.
Hope you read my full-page Sunday Insider, looking at the potential playoff matchups, a piece on Marian Gaborik and some other items. And the NYR-B’s preview, both in the paper and newsday.com. If not, please do.
