Ferriero, a forward who has played 92 games for the Sharks over the past three seasons, was summoned today from Hartford and presumably will play again the Leafs tonight at the Garden.

The 5-11 right wing had four goals and 14 assists in 34 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, and an assist in the Whale's 4-1 win last night .

He was acquired on Thursday in a trade with Pittsburgh...

With less than complete effort, NYR lose to 0-3 Flyers

Taylor Pyatt scores a goal past Philadelphia Flyers

(Credit: AP)

Four games. Two points.  My game story is over on newday.com, but didn't have room to include some telling, sum-up comments from Taylor Pyatt, who scored his third goal of the year and played a solid 19:31.

On the Flyers:

“I think they were the more physical team, especially early on, they established that physical game, which they like to do at home, and we’ve got to have...

Live from MSG: Rangers-Bruins

Derek Stepan controls the puck against Gregory Campbell

The Rangers are trying to avoid an 0-3 showdown with the 0-3 Flyers tomorrow, and coach John Tortorella has loaded up his first line with Marian Gaborik-Brad Richards-Rick Nash, and admitted he's forfeiting a little balance. But he said he hopes to get more jam from Derek Stepan and Ryan Callahan.  Chris Kredier is on the second line also.

Torts also moved Michael Del Zotto to second...

Only three skaters and two goalies at the optional skate here at MSGTC:  Matt Gilroy, Stu Bickel, Chris Kreider,  Henrik Lundqvist and Martin Biron.  Lundqvist took shots first to tune up, left and then Biron took over with the coaches, but Lundqvist will start

"My motivation now is to get a win and get a good feeling in the room. One win can change a lot, you just take...

Torts: 'We're not hard enough mentally'; Kreider, Asham update

(Credit: Patrick E. McCarthy)

Here’s the overriding message from coach John Tortorella today:

“The only thing we should focus on is our mindset…we’re not hard enough mentally, and that translates into hard enough physically.”

With Boston coming into the Garden on Wednesday, Tortorella shuffled some lines in practice, in part because Arron Asham did not skate with a mild groin strain, according...

Henrik Lundqvist prepares to play against the Pittsburgh

(Credit: Jim McIsaac)

Nobody needed these next two days without a game than your boys in blue, if only to get their feet under them.

WHAT ABOUT THE GOALIE?

Henrik Lundqvist needs to/will start against the Bruins; he told me weeks ago (you can read it in archives) that game action was critical to climb up to speed, especially with no exhibitions or AHL scrimmages. My guess: He’ll also start in Philly, especially...

Boston Bruins' Dennis Seidenberg, far left, hooks New

(Credit: AP)

Evening all. We're at MSG for the home opener. Here’s some excerpts from Tortorella’s briefing:

On the value of Arron Asham: “He brings an element of toughness. I’m anxious to see him on that (fourth) line, and maybe elsewhere… I don’t expect him to be a saint. The way he plays, you need to allow him to be himself. But I think we can play the game hard, and we have done that, and physically,...

Boston calling: My dispatch from the morning skate

Well, hockey’s back bigtime in Boston. Huge media throng at TD Garden. Pressroom overflowing. Had to set up laptop on a cafeteria table.

Snapshot: One of the newest Blueshirts, veteran center Jeff Halpern, was all smiles walking off the ice on the rubber mats to the visiting locker room. Asked how he felt in a Rangers uniform. “Seems like it’s been like a new jersey for me at the start of...
