- The book “Orr: My Story” is a good read. But hearing former Rangers defenseman Dave Maloney talk about his rookie encounter with the Bruins icon is a good listen. “It was my first year in Buffalo and he came down the left side and went around me so fast, he had to stop and turn around to see if anybody else was onside,” Maloney recalled. “I never saw that,” said veteran broadcaster Doc Emrick,...

Marc Staal's game is returning

Marc Staal of the Rangers plays the puck

(Credit: Jim McIsaac)

What Marc Staal saw through his tinted visor didn’t really concern him. Columbus defenseman Nikita Nikitin was skating with the puck on the right side of his own zone, perhaps 80 feet away. Staal was on the left side of the Rangers zone.

Nikitin began to shoot, hesitated, took another stride, and whipped a wrister in Staal’s direction, apparently trying to get the puck deep.

Instead,...

Out since Oct. 8, when he was concussed by a high hit from defenseman Brad Stuart,  Rick Nash skated with two goalies and Dominic Moore prior to practice at the MSG Training Center today.

I had a personal day today but Newsday's Anthony Rieber was there and will have a full account, so watch for it on newsday.com

Is it Marek Hrivik's turn?

If the Rangers staff liked Taylor Pyatt's size and ability to protect the puck on the forecheck and weren't necessarily counting on him for a bushel of goals, maybe Marek Hrivik deserves a callup.

Pyatt was jarred by a shoulder/elbow to the head by Fedor Tyutin last night in Columbus, didn't return to the game and was supposed to be evaluated today.

Not sure if Hrivik, also a left wing,...

Rangers' players celebrate their goal against Columbus Blue

And all of a sudden, the 8-8 Rangers are two points out of a tie for second place in the Metro Division.  They have Florida and New Jersey coming up at home---part of the first tangible return for the nine games on the road to open this unfolding season---and at the 20-game mark, when it arrives, could remain in a playoff spot, where they are at this hour, as we wrap up from Columbus. ...

Rick Nash update, Miller back in lineup, Dom Moore improving

As for the speculation that with Rick Nash (concussion) missing his 12th game, the Rangers may be looking to add some offense in a trade,  head coach Alain Vigneault said:

NHL fines Canes' D Ryan Murphy for hit on Dorsett

Hurricanes D Ryan Murphy has been fined $2,213.68 for the low check that upended Derek Dorsett on a rush at 13:36 of the second period on Saturday during the Rangers 5-1 win.

Murphy received a two-minute minor for clipping. Dorsett was incensed, and he went after the rookie once he picked himself up off the ice.

Rangers coach Alain Vigneault called it a "very dangerous" check...

Vigneault, Boudreau differ on PP intent in rout last match

In a post-practice briefing, Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault seemed to infer that Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau tried to rub it in during the later stages of the 6-0 rout in Anaheim on Oct. 10.

"it was 6-nothing, there was six minutes left, we get a penalty,...
