Just watched the first of three groups on ice here at the MSG Training Center. Liked the pace, and liked the idea of having pucks and line rushes. For the first three days in Camp Tortorella, it was all conditioning and no pucks.

As tweeted, Derek Stepan (contract) still not here.

Three groups today.  Martin Biron (personal leave) and  J.T. Miller (hamstring) are on the list...

Evening all....

Have suggested previously that this wrangle with Derek Stepan can be solved with a little more Rangers money in a two-year deal. Still think that’s how it’s going to shake out.

Center Derek Stepan's contract stalemate continues.

A team spokesman today confirmed that the 23-year-old restricted free agent's status hadn't changed.

The Rangers are offering the team's leading scorer last season a two-year bridge deal. Stepan, who earned $875,000 last season, and his agent, are reportedly seeking around $3 million per season and if possible, a longer-term deal.

The two sides in the Derek Stepan contract standoff are said to be talking, but it remains unclear this afternoon whether the Rangers center will be present and accounted for at medicals and testing Wednesday before the Blueshirts take the ice at training camp Thursday.

The Rangers have offered a two-year "bridge contract" to Stepan, as they have in the past to players coming off...

Unsigned RFA center Derek Stepan wasn't on the ice today; neither was Ryan Callahan, who has been at some of the voluntary skates over the past few weeks at the Madison Square Garden Training Center. And sophomore J.T. Miller was conspicuous in his absence---again.

But 27 players, including goaltender Martin Biron for the first time, spent 90 minutes practicing and scrimmaging, with training...

The Traverse City story

Whenever this prospect camp rolls around, I’m reminded of “Warlock” by the poet/writer Jim Harrison, who mentions Traverse City several times in the humorous mystery.

In the front of my brain, I also hear “Summer has inhaled and held its breath too long”, Jefferson Airplane’s opening line of “Coming Back to Me.”

At any rate, September is here, and as tweeted this morn, the Rangers tourney...
