In prepping for the first visit to Newark this season on Saturday, the Rangers front office and head coach Alain Vigneault are opting to fill the hole left by Ryan Callahan (broken thumb, hit by shot against Caps), with experience raather than youth.
The message, it appears, is that the 2-4 Rangers need to nail down a few winnable games, and let the youngsters simmer a bit in Hartford. Vigneault...Read more »
For the third time in four games on this season-opening Western trip, the Rangers (1-2) will face a club staging its home opener, with all the inherent ceremonies, introductions and an energetic crowd.
For the Blueshirts, tonight's clash with the Ducks (2-1) will have a greater emphasis on intensity.

SAN JOSE -- Rick Nash walked out of SAP Center late Tuesday with a headache that had worsened as the game went on, and was worried about a possible concussion. Derek Stepan, who practiced for ther first time since signing his two-year, $61.5 million contract on Thursday, said he needs some more conditioning and time to adjust to the head coach Alain Vigneault's system, which requires different reads on offense than under John Tortorella.
And he was met with a twist: Brad Richards on left wing, a Vigneault experiment, and Ryan Callahan...Read more »
Dan Girardi (along with the Isles’ John Tavares and the Devils’ Andy Greene) are throwing out the first pitches before Friday’s Yanks-Tigers series opener, and the defenseman, who played first base growing up and sometimes brought his glove to the Rangers practice complex to catch with Chris Drury in the parking lot, loosened up his arm last week with one of the equipment staffers.
The bet...Read more »
A day after arriving back from a wonderful three weeks on the Emerald isle, I was on the green grass of that ballyard in the Bronx on Thursday where the official announcement of the two outdoor games (Rangers-Devils on Jan. 26 at 12:30 and Rangers-Islanders on Jan. 29 at 7:30) was delivered. Posted a photo of the outline of the rink on Twitter @stevezipay.
