In what could be an elimination game at Madison Square Garden against the Bruins on Thursday night, Rangers coach John Tortorella has shaken up his lineup by benching struggling veteran Brad Richards.
Tortorella also is replacing injured defenseman Anton Stralman with Roman Hamrlik, and apparently will insert one of the little-used forwards Micheal Haley and Kris Newbury for Arron Asham.

Rangers coach John Tortorella will not disclose his lineup this morning, and not speaking before game here at Verizon Center, so it sounds as if there will be some changes, unless this is just shadow-boxing.
We'll see in warmups, or get some inkling.

Albeit in a non-contacrt jersey, Ryane Clowe skated and shot for the first time since he was drilled by Bobby Sanguinetti against Carolina in the next to last game of the year.
He said he would not rule out playing in Game 2 tomorrow, that his conditioning was okay, but needed to check with doctors to determine whether he could take hits. He would not discuss his undisclosed injury.

Clowe, a 30-year-old left wing who has averaged 20 goals a year over the last four seasons, was swapped for a 2nd and 3rd round draft pick, as well as a conditional second-rounder in 2014, if Clowe, whose four-year, $14.5-million contract expires at the end of this season, re-signs and the Rangers win two rounds. If not, it becomes a fifth.
The 6-2, 225-pound...Read more »
With the Bruins acquiring Jaromir Jagr from Dallas for two prospects and a pick, the deal removed Boston from the list of suitors for Clowe, a 30-year-old left wing who has averaged 20 goals a year over the last four seasons. The 6-2, 225-pound Clowe has 11 assists and no goals in 28 games this season, but the thinking is that a change of scenery would help. Clowe’s contract is up at the end of...Read more »
