Steve Zipay takes you inside the locker room, home and on the road, with the New York Rangers, and also writes about the NHL, off and on the ice.

Coach V on Kreider, Talbot, Philly, practice lines, more...

Some more tinkering with NYR lines:

Chris Kreider and J.T. Miller in top six.

The top one is the same:  Kreider-Derek Stepan-Brad Richards (on the right, yes, so if this sticks, he will have played all three forward spots in eight games)

Here's AV on Kreider's strengths: "Speed, size, goes to the net hard. He shoots the puck as well as I’ve seen a player shoot the puck. Hopefully, he can put all those great attributes together and help us win some games…"

Mats Zuccarello has now slipped to the fourth line; we'll watch this tomorrow at practice before team leaves for Philly and game Thursday..

Benoit Pouliot-Derick Brassard-J.T. Miller;

Zuke/Mashinter-DMoore-Fast. Out of Zuke/Mash, one apparently will be scratched; if AV wants size vs Flyers, easy answer.

Same d-pairs as Monday: McDonagh-Girardi; Staal-Stralman; Moore-Del Zotto; Falk spare.

First PP: Richards, JMoore at points. Stepan, Kreider, Brassard

More on goaltending, which is up in the air for Thursday at the moment with Lundqvist's minor issue (I'm speculating lower-body somewhere, foot, groin) which obviously management hopes doesn't worsen:

"This is a team game; our execution needs to get better and our goaltending needs to get better," Vigneault said, for the second time, in similar fashion. "I'm sure if you'd ask Hank that he'd be first one to tell you...Last night against Pittsburgh, Colorado has no business being in that game, they pulled it out 1-0. We’ve got a goaltender that's done that for many many years, and we believe in him....I just think if, for whatever reason. we need to use (Cam) Talbot, our guys are going to try real hard for him. It's going to be his first opportunity as far as a regular season NHL game, I would expect our group to rally around that."

Again, if not Thursday, Talbot will get a start soon, as AV said, eight games in 15 days. "That's a position where you have to be a competitor. We’re gonna need him to play…"

The Flyers, AV said, are not a 1-7 team: "I don’t think so, the games I’ve watched, they're coming at you with lot of energy and a lot of drive."
