Evening all. We're at MSG for the home opener. Here’s some excerpts from Tortorella’s briefing:

On the value of Arron Asham: “He brings an element of toughness. I’m anxious to see him on that (fourth) line, and maybe elsewhere… I don’t expect him to be a saint. The way he plays, you need to allow him to be himself. But I think we can play the game hard, and we have done that, and physically, without taking penalties. Last night we weren’t physical but we took penalties.”

Asham replaces Brandon Segal, who was returned to Hartford after playing 5:21 against Boston: “I liked some of the things he did. I like his size. As I told him, I’ll tell you, I’m concerned about the tempo… the speed of the game is something that I’d like to see him work on down there. But he’s not done here.”

How early penalties changed ice time: “Kreids (Chris Kreider) wasn’t on the ice there for a bit, a number of people weren’t. That’s when you’re trying to get into the flow.”

On Rick Nash, who also helped kill 7 of 7 power plays: “He’s picked that up pretty quickly as far as how we do it, so he’s gonna be a pretty big part.”

More on his impressions of Nash: “He has such a long reach. He uses his body so very well. And he ends up before Richie’s goal (in Boston)– I wouldn’t call it a chance, it wasn’t a shot on net – but he makes a great play with his body. Even on one of the power plays he just brought it to the net. He’s willing to go there. He’s the full package. He tried to be physical, get some hits. I don’t think he’s bashful at all about trying a lot of different things. And that’s what we’re looking for.”
