Big divide out there on Planet Ranger...

                 Barring a collapse before the Olympics, I'm figuring Blueshirts will be buyers---maybe not major ones---given the logjam at the bottom of the East. 

                 Unless they're seriously in the hunt  to rent Ilya Kovalchuk, which would cost them plenty (I'm guessing at least Brandon Dubinsky, Bobby Sanguinetti, a No. 2, given the depth of some other suitors), there isn't a difference-maker out there.

                 Problem: If someone in the East does land Kovy (Boston, Philly, for example) Rangers could be kayoed this season... and beyond.  Let's face it,  and we've said this many times, to compete in the East with Washington and Pittsburgh, rivals need more than one surefire scorer. Of course, I believe Vancouver and Calgary could cobble together excellent packages for Atlanta also...

                 So let's discuss that and whatever else is floating around at 1...
