Even if Marian Gaborik takes another spin on the ice today to test the reported groin injury suffered last Saturday in the Slovakia-Canada game in Vancouver, the Rangers should not rush their leading scorer in against Washington or Buffalo this weekend.

He hasn't had any contact---and probably won't today at 11 when the Rangers skate before leaving for Washington---and don'tcha think the Caps big boys will be laying the shoulders and hips on him? They hit everybody when they can. (Roll tape of Alex Ovechkin-Jaromir Jagr here, Mr. Director))

         R.I.S.K.Y. for Rikki.

If the sniper says he ready to go Sunday at home against the Sabres without a full contact practice (Rangers won't have one Saturday or Sunday), the docs and trainers (and they are very good on Broadway, BTW) better be right if they give him the green light.

Otherwise, Gabby vs Kovy and the Devils in Newark on Wednesday should be the target, after an extra two days of treatment and practice.

(Oh, and in the interest of full disclosure, if you heard me on WFAN with Marc Malusis around 4:30 AM, I wasn't blathering live on the Rangers and the Olympics and the NHL. We taped our back-and-forth post-game.)

Here's the link to the podcast:  www.wfan.com/pages/744549.php. If it doesn't work, hey, cut-and-paste. Don't be a lazy hedgehog.

We'll be back in a few hours...
