J.P. Parise scored 11 seconds into overtime at Madison Square Garden to give the Isles a 4-3 win, and a 2-1 series win.

May 8, 1979: Rangers eliminate Isles in semifinals

The Rangers beat the Islanders 2-1 at Madison Square Garden and won the series in six games.Sportswriter Mike Lupica wrote at the time, "The Rangers and Islanders have spoiled us. New York will never forget these hockey games." The Rangers' win added to the Islanders reputation of playoff "chokers." The Isles had finished first in the league in the regular season.

April 10, 1984: Morrow nets game-winner

Don Maloney's goal with 39 seconds left in regulation sent the Rangers and Isles into overtime in the deciding game of the Patrick Division semifinals. But at 8:56 of overtime, the Isles' Ken Morrow hit the back of the net for a 3-2 win.

April 24, 1994: Rangers romp, go on to win Cup

The Rangers complete a sweep of the Islanders in the quarterfinals. It was the last time the two teams have met in the postseason. The Rangers went on to win the Stanley Cup, the franchise's first since 1940.

April 4, 1998: Cloutier knocks out Salo

A brawl that included a goalie fight overshadowed

A brawl that included a goalie fight overshadowed a late-season Islanders' 3-0 win. With the Rangers and Islanders already fighting, Tommy Salo took off from the crease to intervene. Rangers goalie Dan Cloutier followed suit and proceeded to beat up Salo. Cloutier then famously challenged the Islanders' bench to a fight. There weren't any takers.

Feb. 19, 2004: Barnaby-Asham I

Late in the third period of the Rangers' 6-2 win, Matthew Barnaby and Aaron Asham dropped gloves. Then goalies Rick DiPietro and Mike Dunham tried to go at it but the referees prevented the fight from happening.

A week after their first fight, Matthew Barnaby and Aaron Asham again dropped gloves. Their fight, which lasted about 20 seconds, was overshadowed by Eric Cairns' pummeling of Rangers defenseman Dale Purinton. The Rangers won the game, 6-3.

March 8, 2007: Simon suspended

With the Islanders and Rangers tied at one, Chris Simon took his stick and swung it at Ryan Hollweg's head. Simon was thrown out of the game and suspended by the NHL. The Rangers won, 2-1.

April 3, 2007: Henrik vs. the Ice Girls

While the Islanders' Ice Girls were shoveling the area around Henrik Lundqvist's crease, the Rangers goalie allegedly swiped his stick at a squeegee held by one of the members of the crew, leaving a small welt. It was one of two accusations leveled against the Rangers that night, the other that a Rangers player spit on one of the Ice Girls from the bench. The Isles won, 3-2.

Sept. 24, 2007: DiPietro beats up Montoya

A preseason game at Nassau Coliseum got ugly, with the Rangers and Islanders combining for over 100 penalty minutes. Most stemmed from a second period fight, which included a brawl between Rick DiPietro and Al Montoya. DiPietro managed to throw Montoya to the ice and beat him up after falling behind early in the fight. The Islanders won in overtime, 5-4.

April 13, 2013: Girardi's OT goal breaks scoreless showdown

Dan Girardi scored with 1:49 left in OT to lift the Rangers to a dramatic 1-0 win over the Islanders in a game where both teams needed points to continue their playoff push.
