In a penalty-filled first period (22 minutes), Marian Gaborik came out of the box and his wrister between the legs of d-man Brandon Yip beat Craig Anderson far side with 6:07 to go in the first. It was Gaborik's 31st goal of the season, the second in two nights, and his 500th career point.  Chad Johnson made 12 saves, as each team was 0-for-3 on the PP. NYR had 10 shots.

At one point, both Vinny Prospal and Marc Staal leaped on a prone Johnson to smother a loose puck, raising the question of why exactly Matt Zaba wasn't called up. Dumb. The Rangers knew last night and early this morning that Lundqvist was still battling a stomach bug. Who will go in the cage if Johnson gets hurt? Brian Boyle? Wade Redden?
