John Tortorella's pre-game briefing was delayed due to an accident on the West Side Highway. When he finally appeared, he apologized, then talked about how some of his players resembled a train wreck against Washington.  In his sharpest comment, he said that if injured Marian Gaborik could not raise his level of play, he would not dress tonight against the Sabres.

"He can’t play the way he played last night," Tortorella said. "If he is not able, in his mind, to get through this and be able to play full, he won’t play. That’s the discussion Gabby and I will have after warm-ups. If he is able to work hard and get through this mentally, he'll play...it’s too many minutes that I will give him that will be wasted if he’s not ready mentally."

" Let’s call a spade a spade. Our top guys were no shows. And it can’t be happening this time of year. (Gaborik, Erik Christensen, Vinny Prospal.) It was all three of them. It’s not to cause a stir, they have to be able to do more things they did last night." Asked if Jokinen was included in that group, he is answer was an emphatic "Yes".

Asked why Wade Redden played just two minutes in the thrid period, Tortoreall said, as suspected:  "He didn’t play well enough in certain situations, so we shortened the bench."
