Today's word from Sports Business Daily that MLB may have to step in to revive the Texas Rangers doesn't necessarily bode well for Tom Hicks, who also owns the Dallas Stars. MLB could take over the assets of the Rangers and then sell the team to a group led by Chuck Greenberg and team president Nolan Ryan,  but that could spark a legal battle with creditors.

If the Stars (who will pay Sean Avery about $2 mil a year through 12-13) need to cut salary, well, there's some wiggle room.

Marty Turco's gone....Brad Richards, in the final year of his deal, underwent  arthoscopic hip surgery on April 23 to repair a small labrum tear and should be ready for camp. but he's probably unmovable at $7.8 mil.... Brendan Morrow, 30, (20-26-46) is owed about $4 million for each of the next three years...Jere Lehtinen ($1.5 mil) is a UFA....Love James Neal, but he's an RFA and will certainly be resigned.... Matt Niskanen an RFA as well. Trevor Daley is due $2.5 mil next season and then is a UFA. ...

I'm told that many Eastern teams are watching the financial situtation evolve in Texas and could be ready to proffer deals in when the dust settles...
