Play ball! Provident Bank Park in Pomona reopens this spring and summer for another season of Rockland Boulders baseball and concert events.
Under the watch of new manager Jamie Keefe, the Boulders will play 50 home games in their quest to quiet the Quebec Capitales, who have won the CanAm League four years in a row. But while minor-league baseball has been the primary draw since the 3,500-seat stadium opened in 2011, concerts and family-friendly events have been added to the roster in more recent years.
Like most stadiums built in the 21st century, the ballpark boasts modern amenities, including party suites ($750-$900) and cheap seats (starting at $8) alike. There's a concession stand with more than just your ballpark classic hot dogs and pretzels -- think fruit cups, flavored popcorn and wraps). Children can pal around with the team mascot, Boulder Bird; celebrate birthdays with his buddy, Patti Cake; ride the "B-Train" that circles the concourse; and run wild through BoulderBerg, an outdoor playground complete with slides, swings, climbing walls and a jungle gym.
But there's more than just baseball. The Town of Ramapo, which sponsors the venue's summer concert series, is finalizing this year's musical lineup at the ballpark. Last year, that series kicked off with Gavin DeGraw and Colbie Caillat, and featured additional performances by Five For Fighting, Gretchen Wilson, Big & Rich, Smash Mouth and REO Speedwagon. Although the dates and details are subject to change, Darius Rucker (July 12), The Beach Boys (Aug. 14) and Charlie Daniels Band with .38 Special (Aug. 28) are expected to take the Provident Bank Park stage this summer.
Tack on fireworks nights, Boulder Bash dance parties and chances for children to run the bases after select games, and there's never been more to do at Provident Bank Ballpark.
Ready to go? Here's a look at some of the most exciting events that will happen this season.
June 28: John Flaherty Bobblehead/'80s Night
In honor of the former New York Yankees catcher who's a county resident and a partner in the Rockland Boulders franchise, ballpark staffers will hand out a John Flaherty bobblehead to the first 1,250 fans to attend this Boulders game against the Capitales. It's also '80s Night, so fans are encouraged to dress the part and participate in contests that some might describe as "totally rad."
