TAMPA, Fla. -- Braydon Coburn scored early in the third period and Ben Bishop made 31 saves as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Detroit Red Wings, 2-0, last night and won their Eastern Conference first-round series, four games to three.
Tampa Bay moves on to play Montreal in the next round. Anton Stralman added an empty-net goal with just over a minute left. Petr Mrazek made 15 saves for Detroit.
Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall missed the elimination Game 7 after being suspended for charging Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov in Game 6. No penalty was called and Kucherov took seven shifts in the third.
"I feel like it happened a little bit different than what they feel," Kronwall yesterday morning. "I did something to put them in the situation to where they could make the final call. So, anyway you look at it, that's on me." -- AP
