The Yankees are going to take California Chrome's trainers out to the ballgame.

Assistant trainer Alan Sherman said Tuesday morning that he and his father, 77-year-old Art Sherman, have been invited to throw out the ceremonial first pitches at the Stadium on June 5, two days before their colt goes for the Triple Crown in the Belmont Stakes.

The 1:05 p.m. start against the Oakland A's fits well into the schedule of trainers, who invariably rise around 4 a.m.

"I'm a guy who goes to bed kind of early," Alan Sherman said, "so it's better for me."
