Mucho Macho Man takes Suburban at Belmont

Mucho Macho Man won the $350,000 Suburban Handicap yesterday at Belmont Park, beating Hymn Book by 21/2 lengths.

After sitting second behind the pacesetting Trickmeister, Mucho Macho Man took charge turning for home and was under a hand ride from Mike Smith approaching the wire. The time was 1:46.58 for 11/8 miles.

The 4-year-old, trained by Kathy Ritvo, has six victories in 16 starts, and paid $13.60 to win.

Torre, Sutherland winners in Gold Cup

Game On Dude carried Chantel Sutherland to victory in the $500,000 Grade I Hollywood Gold Cup, making her the first female jockey to win the 73-year-old race. Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert finished 1-2 for the second straight year with Game On Dude and second-place Richard's Kid.

Game On Dude ran 1 1/4 miles on the synthetic Cushion Track in 2:04.19 and paid $2.80 to win. The 5-year-old gelding is co-owned by former Dodgers and Yankees manager Joe Torre.

Pletcher horse wins UN Stakes

Turbo Compressor led wire to wire in the $500,000 Grade I United Nations Stakes at Monmouth Park, beating Air Support by 13/4 lengths. Ridden by Joe Bravo and trained by Todd Pletcher, the 4-year-old ridgling ran 13/8 miles on the firm turf course in 2:12.88, returned $7 to win and earned a guaranteed spot in the $3-million Breeders' Cup Turf race at Santa Anita in November . . .
