Big day for Steve Matthews at Aqueduct
Steve Matthews, Newsday's horse racing handicapper, picked five winners totaling $41.70 and hit four exotic wagers for another $139.50 Wednesday at Aqueduct. Matthews started the day with Basalt paying $14.40 in the first race. He followed with Mischief Maker earning $8.90 in the fifth.
Next came the seventh race, when Groomedforvictory won and paid $10.
The eighth race Jameela stakes was profitable as Matthews nailed the exacta for $18.60 and double for $27. Tiz the Argument earned him $4.60.
When Towering won the ninth race and paid $3.80, it came with further dividends. The Pick 3 for races 7-9 earned Matthews $83.50 and the double capped off the day with a $10.40 payoff.
