Big disappointment when he lacked his usual early speed in a never-involved fifth in Arkansas Derby. Strong stamina bloodlines but he’s winless beyond a mile and 70 yards. Even a career top in Derby probably wouldn't be enough to contend seriously. | (Credit: AP)

A field of 14 is expected to be entered Wednesday morning for Saturday's Belmont Stakes. Trainer Dominick Schettino on Tuesday said Always in a Tiz will run instead in the Easy Goer Stakes on the undercard. The last time the Belmont had 14 runners was 1996.

Trainer Todd Pletcher will set a record with five entries, three owned by Mike Repole, who will tie Price McGrath's 1875 mark. Rosie Napravnik, on Repole's Unlimited Budget, will try to become the second woman to ride a Belmont winner and the first to do so on a filly. "It's exciting," she said. "I think it's great to bring attention to the sport."

Stevens sore but OK

Gary Stevens, who will ride Preakness winner Oxbow, said his ribs were still sore from a spill Saturday at Santa Anita. He said precautionary X-rays showed no fractures and "it won't be my first time riding while managing pain."
