Melanie Motschwiller and Paige Prefer defeated Jenna Kogan

and Katie Avalar in second doubles, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, and in third doubles Rebecca

Gold and Stephanie Taxel were winners over Erica Goldstein and Lauren Salzman,

5-7, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3), as Jericho topped Syosset, 7-0, for its second straight

Nassau County girls tennis championship yesterday.

Jericho (16-0), which finished its second straight undefeated season,

advances to the Long Island championship, where it will face the Suffolk County

champion Nov. 11 at Smithtown West.

Smithtown East 4, Floyd 3: Sara Kirdly defeated Kiyfell Aquino in third

singles, 7-5, 7-6 (5), in the game-deciding match as No. 9 Smithtown topped

eighth-seeded Floyd in the first round of the Suffolk County girls tennis

playoffs. Smithtown East will face No. 1 Westhampton in the quarterfinal.

West Islip 4, East Hampton 3: Kelsey Kjeldsen and Ali Calabrese defeated

Vicky Peel-Magraf and Serina Peddy in third doubles, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4, as No. 6

West Islip defeated No. 11 East Hampton. West Islip will play No. 3 Hills East

in the quarterfinal.

East Islip 4, Sayville 3: Kerrie Gallichio and Amy Sadowski overcame a

first-set loss to defeat Cynthia Chang and Carolyn Hartman in second doubles,

3-6, 7-5, 6-3, as No. 10 East Islip upended No. 8 Sayville.

Ward Melville 4, Centereach 2: Shaylyn Blaney had two goals for Ward

Melville in Suffolk Division I.

Riverhead 2, Rocky Point 1: Kelly Miloski scored the winner for Riverhead

on an assist from Jackie Zilnicki with two seconds left in Suffolk Division III.

Southampton 2, Hampton Bays 0: Randi Gallo and Claire Kemo scored for

Southampton and Petrina DeRobertis had two saves in her third shutout.


West Hempstead 3, Wantagh 2: Senior Jessica DeLace had a career-high 45

assists, senior Danielle Romano added a career-high 18 kills and sophomore

Stephani Koelbel had a career-high 22 digs as West Hempstead overcame a 2-0

deficit for a 21-25, 18-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-19. win.

Garden City 3, Hewlett 1: Rebecca Langer had 10 kills, 10 aces and two

blocks and Laura Haynes had 16 kills, five aces and three blocks for Garden

City (16-0) as it completed its first undefeated regular season with a 25-13,

25-27, 25-17, 25-14 win.

Long Island Lutheran 2, Faith Academy 0: Stephanie Bender had five aces and

Caitlyn Horton four aces for No. 1 Long Island Lutheran (18-2) in a 30-13,

30-16 win in an IPPSAL semifinal.


Oceanside 1, Island Trees 0: Nikki Capo scored off a cross from Shannon

Farrell in the 62nd minute for Oceanside (5-4-3 Nassau Conference II). Danielle

Gura made three saves for her third shutout. Island Trees is 8-2-2.

Roslyn 2, Freeport 0: Julie Glantz scored in the 65th off a deflection as

Roslyn (11-2-1) earned a first-place tie in Conference VII.

Floyd 1, Brentwood 0: Kayla Fowler scored for Floyd (2-5-2) in Suffolk

League I on a through ball from Kayla Vitale in the 60th minute. Brentwood is


Northport 2, Sachem North 0: Amy Farabaugh scored the winner in the 69th

minute off a feed from Kelly Wanser for Northport (8-0-1) in League II. Julie

Hayes capped the scoring in the 74th minute.


Division 5, Bethpage 4: Cameron Einerman scored his second goal on a break

away in the 47th minute for Division (4-7-1) in Nassau Conference ABC-IV.

Bethpage is 6-5.

Roosevelt 4, Valley Stream North 1: Sophomore Ever Alvarado scored four

goals, a career high, and Damie Henry had three assists for Roosevelt (10-2-2)

in Conference ABC-V. VSN is 2-12.

West Hempstead 4, Friends Academy 3: Anthony Coker scored three goals for

West Hempstead (8-3-3).

Huntington 3, Islip 2: Nick DiPaula had the winner off a pass from Stephen

Mock in the 65th minute for Huntington (7-3-3 Suffolk League V). Islip is
