Just wondering: What does TBS see in Caray?

Fans who recall the Yankees’ last playoff appearance, way back in 2007, surely recall the often comical stylings of TBS’ lead play-by-play man, Chip Caray.

Well, Yankees Universe, now that you’re back, he’s back. TBS announced yesterday that Caray will call the Yankees’ ALDS alongside Ron Darling.
I asked Jeff Behnke, Turner Sports’ executive producer, if he thinks Caray has improved since that first fall, when TBS covered the playoffs without having had a national regular-season package.

“I think Chip learned a lot,’’ he said of ‘07. “We’re very confident and comfortable with Chip as our ‘A’ person.’’

Behnke said Caray has benefited from working TBS’ game of the week the past two seasons — including many Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers and Cardinals games.

“We think he’s evolved,’’ Behnke said. “We think he’s grown and matured.’’

Don Orsillo, who calls Red Sox games in the regular season, will team with Buck Martinez for the Red Sox-Angels series. NLDS teams: Dick Stockton/Bob Brenly and Brian Anderson/Joe Simpson.

TBS will show the NLCS; Fox has the ALCS and World Series.
