La's hat trick leads Elmont girls lacrosse

Joy La had three goals, including the winning score off a ground ball with 1:14 left in the game to lift Elmont to a 13-12 win over West Hempstead Friday in Nassau Conference V girls lacrosse.

Elmont goalie Arnel Bonsu (17 saves) stopped a penalty shot with 15 seconds remaining to seal the win. Kelly Walsh had eight goals for West Hempstead.BOYS LACROSSE

Wheatley/Carle Place 5, Oyster Bay 4: Owen Spisak scored off a pass from Brian Engbarth with 40 seconds left to win it for Wheatley/Carle Place in non-league. Engbarth (two goals) tied it at 4 with 1:30 remaining.

Northport 1, Commack 0: Stephen Carr drove in Phil Dennis in the bottom of the fourth inning to lift Northport in non-league. Brandon Fischer allowed two hits, struck out eight and walked two in six innings for the win.

Calhoun 4, Kellenberg 1: Alex Vargas struck out four and allowed one earned run over six innings to lift Calhoun in non-league.SOFTBALL

Island Trees 1, Syosset 0: Alannah Basile pitched a one-hitter with 15 strikeouts for Island Trees in non-league. Jenn Crowley, the scored the lone run in the top of the seventh for Island Trees.
