I just returned from Michael Strahan's retirement news conference. I'm like the alum who keeps coming back to hang out with his old pals, sleep on a couch in the fraternity lodge and sleep late while everyone goes to class.
Come to think of it, that's exactly what I used to do.
Anyway, I cynically wondered whether Strahan had scheduled the event for 11:30 a.m. to avoid giving his old sparring partners Mike Francesa and Chris Russo the chance to carry it live on their show.
I was told that was not the case, but Strahan did go on WFAN with Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts minutes before Chris and Mike went on the air. When they did, Mike announced they would start out talking about Strahan just to disappoint cynics who bet they would avoid that topic on purpose.
Mike and Chris were nice to Strahan, but made fun of Glauber for making Strahan No. 2 on his list of all-time Giants. Russo said Glauber should have called Wellington Mara for advice.
No. 2 is a tough call. Glauber and I discussed it Monday. Mike and Chris did not say whom they would have put second behind L.T.
Discuss among yourselves.
