Joe Namath, whose appearances on ESPN Radio have made their share of news, henceforth will have more time to stir up the Jets and their fans.

Starting Monday, Broadway Joe is getting extended to one hour every Monday on “The Michael Kay Show.’’

Won’t that mean having to talk about more than just the Jets? “Yes,’’ Namath said. “We are going to talk about the rest of the league to some extent and also are going to talk with fans who call in.’’

Just a hunch: Namath won’t generate many headlines for weighing in on the Seahawks’ quarterback situation.

Speaking of Kay, he has re-upped with ESPN New York – as of Friday heard only on 98.7 FM, with 1050 AM now a Spanish sports station. But there is no guarantee he will hold onto afternoon drive time for the length of the contract.

With the Yankees in a tense race, September would be a good time for Kay to make a ratings move on WFAN’s Mike Francesa. Midday hosts Stephen A. Smith and Ryan Ruocco could emerge as an alternative if the station loses patience with Kay’s numbers.
