Manti Te'o story didn't add up

Greetings, people of Earth! It's a Friday, and I'm not in Atlanta or suburban Boston, so it must be time for me to visit the old blog.

Today we begin with the story of Manti Te'o, an episode that has been a profound embarrassment for sports journalists everywhere, as I wrote here.

I know this is way too easy to say now, but it's true: There always was something weird about the dead girlfriend story that nagged at me when he spoke about it during the season.

It seemed strangely incomplete for a 21st century saga of a deceased young significant other of a famous football player.

Where was the back story? Where was the video? Where was the soft-focus Tom Rinaldi feature backed by a sappy piano soundtrack and interviews with teary relatives?

Well, now we know. Oy vey.
