Although many critics – including this one – considered it clichéd and simplistic, let’s give “42” its due: The recent Jackie Robinson biopic, which was released on DVD Tuesday, is a huge hit by sports movie standards.

According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, its gross of just under $95 million is second all-time among baseball movies (not adjusted for inflation) to “A League of Their Own,’’ which earned $107.5 million.

“Moneyball” previously had been No. 2 on the baseball list, at $75.6 million.

The highest-grossing sports-themed movie of them all remains “The Blind Side,” with a cool $256 million.
