Neil Best leaves no stone unturned in the world of sports media.
Darryl Strawberry sits down with Fran Healy in the next episode of “The Game 365,’’ premiering on MSG Plus Monday night, to discuss his latest chapter as a preacher and ministry leader who has opened a series of “recovery centers’’ under his name.
The episode includes video of Strawberry addressing an audience in Lynchburg, Virginia, saying, “I grew up in a really dysfunctional situation....Read more »
Apparently word has spread that Derek Jeter soon will send his No. 2 shirts to the drycleaner for long-term storage.
Since Jeter said Feb. 12 this will be his final season, his replica jersey tops the bestseller list on MLB.com. Old No. 2 also ranks No. 3 overall since the end of the 2013 World Series – and is the only player in the top four who did not play in that World Series.

My father was born 94 years ago Saturday, so presumably he would have understood and perhaps agreed with the critics of Daniel Murphy’s brief paternity leave from the Mets this week.
In fairness, though, he died in 1967, so he missed a half-century of cultural evolution on this topic. The rest of us should know better by now.
But all seems fair in the worlds of social media and talk...Read more »
No actor has more sports movie bona fides than Kevin Costner, so his opinions on the subject merit attention.
Still, he has gone out on a bit of a limb in saying his new movie, “Draft Day,” which opens April 11, has “a chance to be a classic’’ on the order of his other films.
“This took its place right along for me with ‘For Love of the Game,’ ‘Bull Durham,’ ‘Field of Dreams,’’’ he said...Read more »
Mike Francesa's WFAN simulcast returned to Fox Sports 1 Friday after several days of preemptions, two of which were because of the network's commitment to live Champions League soccer coverage.
Here is how Big Mike opened the show Friday:
"They've missed a lot of activity the last couple of days off putting everybody to sleep with that soccer. But you know, that's their business. They...Read more »
To say the NFL “cooperated’’ in the making of “Draft Day’’ would be an understatement.
The league’s presence in the film, which premieres April 11, is extraordinarily extensive, from the use of actual team names and logos to a fake 2014 draft filmed the same weekend as last year’s real one. Both starred Roger Goodell.
Had that not been the case, Kevin Costner would not be starring in...Read more »
Boomer Esiason apologized - early and often - on his WFAN show Friday morning for comments he made two days earlier regarding Daniel Murphy's paternity leave from the Mets.
Esiason was not the only critic of paternity leave for ballplayers on sports talk radio - and among fans on social media - but nothing in the debate caused as much controversy as his suggestion that if it were him he would...Read more »
Michael Kay weighed in on his ESPN New York Radio show Thursday afternoon on the matter of Daniel Murphy's two-game paternity leave, and about what other talk show hosts have said about it, especially on WFAN.
He called out Boomer Esiason by name.
There was much yelling involved.
Here ya go:
"I’d have to be an unbelievably narcissistic baboon to make my choice on somebody...Read more »
Mike Francesa opened his WFAN radio show Thursday by discussing . . . what else? Daniel Murphy and his recently arrived bundle of joy.
"Little did I know I was going to start a national dialogue [Wednesday]," Francesa said after both he and WFAN's morning show were hit with a barrage of criticism after commenting on the delicate matter of paternity leave.
"I cannot believe how erroneous...Read more »
Condolences to the family and friends of Sandy Grossman, one of the most accomplished directors in sports TV history, who died of cancer this week at age 78.
Grossman directed numerous major events, including NBA Finals and Stanley Cup Finals, but he was best known as the director for the storied NFL team at CBS and Fox that featured Pat Summerall and John Madden.
