Mike Francesa not a fan of Fox soccer preemptions

Mike Francesa talks about what a typical day

Mike Francesa's WFAN simulcast returned to Fox Sports 1 Friday after several days of preemptions, two of which were because of the network's commitment to live Champions League soccer coverage.

Here is how Big Mike opened the show Friday:

"They've missed a lot of activity the last couple of days off putting everybody to sleep with that soccer. But you know, that's their business. They...

Kevin Costner likes to keep it real

To say the NFL “cooperated’’ in the making of “Draft Day’’ would be an understatement.

The league’s presence in the film, which premieres April 11, is extraordinarily extensive, from the use of actual team names and logos to a fake 2014 draft filmed the same weekend as last year’s real one. Both starred Roger Goodell.

Had that not been the case, Kevin Costner would not be starring in...

Boomer Esiason apologized - early and often - on his WFAN show Friday morning for comments he made two days earlier regarding Daniel Murphy's paternity leave from the Mets.

Esiason was not the only critic of paternity leave for ballplayers on sports talk radio - and among fans on social media - but nothing in the debate caused as much controversy as his suggestion that if it were him he would...

Michael Kay weighed in on his ESPN New York Radio show Thursday afternoon on the matter of Daniel Murphy's two-game paternity leave, and about what other talk show hosts have said about it, especially on WFAN.

He called out Boomer Esiason by name.

There was much yelling involved.

Here ya go:

"I’d have to be an unbelievably narcissistic baboon to make my choice on somebody...

WFAN's morning duo of Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton returned early Thursday to the subject of Daniel Murphy's two-game paternity leave from the Mets, addressing criticism of their initial take Wednesday from assorted corners of social media and beyond.

They did not back off their initial opinion that assuming no medical complications for the mother or baby, Murphy and other professional...

Michael Kay's YES Network simulcast of his ESPN New York Radio show, which began two months ago Thursday, has averaged 19,000 viewers, YES said, citing Nielsen data for the New York area.

That is higher than the 14,000 viewers Mike Francesa's WFAN simulcast averaged during the same time frame in 2013, with Francesa's show coming at significantly more cost to YES.

Kay's viewership presumably...

Mike Francesa talks about what a typical day

Opening Day began a new era in local New York baseball media, with the Mets on WOR radio and Mike Francesa for the first time in his career hosting a WFAN show during a Mets game.

Tuesday night will bring another change: YES carrying a simulcast of Michael Kay’s ESPN New York radio show on a day when YES’ play-by-play man will call a regular-season Yankees game.

How will that work logistically?

The...

Mike Francesa returns to TV Monday with a simulcast on Fox Sports 1 (and 2), joining his WFAN confreres Craig Carton and Boomer Carton in appearing nationwide with locally-oriented New York radio programs.

Seems odd, what with CBS Sports having its own national morning show (featuring Tiki Barber) that was bypassed in favor of Boomer and Carton, who appear on CBS Sports Network a total of...
