Brick City: Long Island MMA fighters help veterans

Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano joins veterans groups and MMA fighters to announce a marathon to benefit veterans on Aug. 4. The day will feature an event in which participants will compete while carrying backpacks full of bricks. Videojournalist: Howard Schnapp (April 30, 2012)

Long Island-based MMA fighters Matt Serra, Pete Sell and Eddie Gordon were among those on hand Monday as Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano kicked off the inaugural year of his Brick 26 Challenge.

The Aug. 4 fundraiser for several veterans groups is named for the five 5-pound bricks that most participants will carry throughout the 10K race in a 1-pound backpack, as well as a local veterans support group.
