Chris Weidman added to UFC on Fox 2
Chris Weidman is no stranger to taking fights on short notice. But 11 days is short notice, even for him.
The undefeated middleweight from Baldwin agreed to fight on the UFC on Fox 2 card in Chicago on Jan. 28 against Demian Maia, the UFC announced. (Read our updated story with Weidman quotes here.)
"I was always a good crammer in school," Weidman wrote on his verified Twitter account @ChrisWeidmanUFC.
Maia was originally scheduled to fight Michael Bisping on the card, but Bisping was elevated to the co-main event against Chael Sonnen after Mark Munoz was injured.
Weidman (7-0, 3-0 UFC) debuted last February on 19 days' notice against Alessio Sakara. He fought most recently at UFC 139 in San Jose last November and submitted Tom Lawlor in the first round. In Maia (15-3), he fights a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist who once fought Anderson Silva for the middleweight title. Maia's three career losses have come against Silva, Mark Munoz and Nate Marquardt, all top-tier middleweights at the time.
