Rousey finished ninth in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. She was 17. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Rousey won the bronze medal at middleweight, becoming the first American to reach the medal podium in women’s judo since it became a full Olympic sport in 1992.
