'Rampage' Jackson out of UFC 153
And the injuries continue to pile up for UFC fighters and fight cards.
Quinton "Rampage" Jackson is injured and will not fight light heavyweight Glover Teixeira at UFC 153, UFC president Dana White announced on his verified Twitter account Tuesday.
UFC 153 is scheduled for Oct. 13 in Brazil. This was the last fight on Jackson's UFC contract, after which he has said he would leave the organization. Of course, with Rampage, you never know what that means since he has retired at least twice so far in his career.
This is the second injury to alter the main attractions at UFC 153. Erik Koch pulled out of his featherweight title fight against Jose Aldo and was replaced by former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar (UPDATE: That fight is now off as well after Jose Aldo was injured).
No replacement for Jackson has been announced yet, but given the number of fighters who reportedly turned down a fight with Teixeira ("Shogun" Rua), that won't be so easy. Teixeira (18-2) is considered by some as an opponent whose talent far outweighs his profile right now, making him a risky fighter to face. Teixeira turned heads with his UFC debut when he submitted Kyle Kingsbury 1:53 into their bout at UFC 146. He also has 11 knockouts on his record.
