LI's Ryan LaFlare trains for MMA title shot

The last time Ryan LaFlare fought inside a steel cage, everyone loved Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, Carmelo Anthony was a Denver Nugget and LeBron James was still a month away from making "The Decision."

Out of action for more than two and a half years because of injuries, LaFlare returned Friday night to the same set of results as every one of his previous fights: victory.

LaFlare, who is from Lindenhurst and trains at Long Island MMA in Melville and Bellmore Kickboxing Academy, and submitted Andrew Osborne by armbar late in the third round at Ring of Combat 43 in Atlantic City. LaFlare (7-0) reclaimed his welterweight title.

After LaFlare's last fight -- a first-round TKO on June 11, 2010 -- he suffered a wrist injury, followed by an ACL injury. Along the way, he signed a deal with Strikeforce, but never fought for the promotion before it closed its doors earlier this month.

In other fights involving Long Island fighters . . .

Deividas Taurosevicius, a former WEC and Bellator fighter from Copiague (via Lithuania), submitted Frank Caraballo by arm triangle choke in the first round to retain the Ring of Combat featherweight title.

Andre Harrison from Bellmore Kickboxing Academy beat Ruben Rey via TKO midway through the second round. Harrison, a featherweight, is now 5-0.

Pat DeFranco, a Serra-Longo middleweight, lost a split decision to Elias Silverio.
