UFC 126: 'Mighty Mouse' saves the day
This is the second event where UFC streamed prelims live on Facebook, and it still seems crazy. Anyone else remember when the only reason to create a Facebook account was to look at pictures of chicks?
But I digress. Back to the first prelim between bantamweights Demetrious Johnson and Kid Yamamoto.
Johnson, nicknamed "Mighty Mouse" because he's a shorter-than-most 135-pounder, spent 15 minutes taking down Yamamoto en route to the unanimous decision victory at UFC 126 in at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The judges scored it 29-28, 30-27 30-27.
“I was happy with my hands tonight and I was able to get my takedowns,” Johnson said.
Johnson did an excellent job of taking down Yamamoto. For the better part of the fight, Yamamoto did a solid job of getting back up each time without incurring much damage. And Johnson was equally deft at landing a shot as Yamamoto got up and broke free.
But Johnson was too fast in the UFC debut for both fighters.
“I didn’t feel any different in the UFC Octagon tonight," Johnson said. "I know it’s bigger but it felt the same.”
