UFC 157: Court McGee's boxing clinic

Question: How did Josh Neer make it to the second round, let alone the third round?

Answer: Because Court McGee did not attack the right side of Neer after a left kick caused Neer to visibly express the pain and anguish it caused.  Neer backed away and obviously protected that damaged right side. McGee did throw another two shots that landed and sent Neer crumpling to the ground. Then, McGee stopped going for it and Neer hung on for the final 30 seconds or so.

McGee, who dropped to welterweight for the first time, exhibited perfect striking for three rounds to dominate Neer and win a unanimous decision at UFC 157 on Saturday night inside the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. All three judges scored it 30-27 in favor of McGee, the Season 11 "Ultimate Fighter" winner.

Neer managed to get off in the second round, but could not do much to prevent McGee from landing at will.

"I was told by FightMetric that I broke the record for most significant strikes ever in a welterweight fight and feel great," McGee said. "I could have stopped it, maybe, early with body shots but I was glad I put on a good performance.”
